The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined due to uncertainty in both the level of participation within the licensure compact and when the compact will become operational.
The bill would amend the Occupations Code to require the Texas Medical Board to participate in a physician assistant licensure compact to grant compact privileges to Texas physician assistant licensees and other participating states' licensees that would be coming to Texas. The bill would take effect September 1, 2025.
The compact will become operational after seven states have adopted the compact model legislation, which has not yet occurred. There is currently no data available from existing compact states to estimate a potential licensee population. Based on the analysis of the Texas Medical Board, until the compact commission is formed and there is a clear framework for implementation the fiscal impact to the state cannot be estimated.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
