The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined due to an unknown number of claimants resulting from the provisions of the bill.

The bill would amend Code of Criminal Procedure to broaden expungement eligibility for certain persons and allow affected individuals to apply for compensation and health benefits provided by Civil Practice and Remedies Code within three years of the bills effective date. The changes would apply to offenses occurring before, on or after the effective date..

The bill would amend Civil Practice and Remedies Code to expand eligibility for compensation and expunction of arrest records for certain wrongfully imprisoned persons.

According to the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the bill will increase the number of individuals eligible to receive compensation, but the fiscal implications cannot be determined due to the number of additional claimants arising from the provisions of the bill being unknown.
