FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2025

TO:
Honorable Cole Hefner, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans' Affairs

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2436 by Hefner (Relating to an exception to the application of the offense of deadly conduct for certain peace officers discharging official duties.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would make an exception for the offenses of recklessly engaging in conduct that places another person in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or knowingly discharging a firearm at or in the direction of one or more individuals if the person is a peace officer who is engaged in the actual discharge of their official duties.

It is assumed that any fiscal impact and any impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources would not be significant.

Local Government Impact

It is assumed that any fiscal impact to units of local government associated with enforcement, prosecution, supervision, or confinement would not be significant.
