LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
April 28, 2025
TO:
Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB3744 by Manuel (Relating to the definition of intervenor for purposes of crime victims' compensation.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would change the definition of "intervenor" in the Code of Criminal Procedure as it pertains to the Crime Victims Compensation (CVC) program. The Office of the Attorney General anticipates an increase in the amount that would be paid to victims by the CVC program due to an increased number of eligible applicants. It is assumed any additional cost to the program could be absorbed utilizing existing funding.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
