Honorable Angie Chen Button, Chair, House Committee on Trade, Workforce & Economic Development
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB4899 by Wilson (Relating to private rights of action arising from certain solicitation-related communications.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the definition of "telephone solicitation" and establish a deceptive trade practice for violations of the Business and Commerce Code chapter relating to telemarketing.
The Office of the Attorney General may see an increase in consumer complaints or requests for information regarding solicitation violations and deceptive trade practices. However, the OAG anticipates that any additional workload related to consumer education, complaint intake, or potential enforcement activity could be reasonably absorbed within existing resources.
No significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
