FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 22, 2025

TO:
Honorable Bryan Hughes, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB629 by Zaffirini (Relating to the accrual of interest on overdue child support.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would change the interest rate on delinquent child support, child support arrearage judgments, and retroactive child support judgments from six percent to three percent beginning January 1, 2026.

It is assumed that any technology costs to upgrade the Office of the Attorney General's Child Support IT system to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
