LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 23, 2025

TO:
Honorable Lacey Hull, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB2041 by Hancock (Relating to procedures for selecting a placement for a child in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would have DFPS attempt to place a child with a relative or other designated caregiver prior to placing a child in contract residential care. The bill would also amend the factors the Department of Family and Protective Services shall consider in selecting a contract residential placement to include a placement that can meet the long-term needs of a child.

It is assumed that any costs to the Department of Family and Protective Services could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
