Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education K-16 was held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:17 AM. The following business was transacted:                                                

 

The chair laid out SB 724 and recognized the author, Senator Kolkhorst, to explain the bill.

 

No witnesses registered or testified on the bill.

 

Senator Creighton moved that SB 724 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 1741 and recognized the author, Senator Parker, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Campbell sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Parker to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

No witnesses registered or testified on the bill.

 

Senator Creighton moved that SB 1741 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 9:33 AM Senator Creighton moved that the Committee stand recessed until after adjournment of the Senate. Without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 12:40 PM Senator Creighton reconvened the meeting.

 

The chair laid out SB 1273 and recognized the author, Senator Hughes, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Middleton sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Hughes to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.

 

A quorum was established at 1:00 PM, the following business was transacted:

 

Senator Middleton moved the adoption of the committee substitute for Senate Bill 1273; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Creighton moved that CSSB 1273 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 1067 and recognized the author, Senator Middleton, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Hagenbuch sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Middleton to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.  Senator Hagenbuch moved the adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.

Senator Creighton moved that CSSB 1067 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 452 and recognized the author, Senator Middleton, to explain the bill.

 

The chair laid out SB 1489 and recognized the author, Senator Bettencourt, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Campbell assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out SB 37 and recognized the author, Senator Creighton, to explain the bill.

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Campbell moved that SB 452, SB 1489, and SB 37 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Creighton resumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 4:49 PM Senator Bettencourt moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
