Chapter 552, Texas Government Code, gives you the right to access governmental records without governmental officials asking why. All governmental information is presumed to be available to the public. Certain exceptions may apply to the disclosure of the information. Governmental bodies shall promptly release requested information that is not confidential by law or information for which an exception to disclosure has been sought.
Detailed information about access to public information is available from the Office of the Attorney General. Be advised that communications between citizens and members of the legislature are excepted from disclosure, as are records of confidential communications, including requests for the drafting of proposed legislation between the Texas Legislative Council and members of the legislature.
