Whereas, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, and this Greek letter organization is the first sorority established by African-American college women; be it resolved that the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the commitment of Shirley Fisher and the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to community service and express appreciation.
